The Nokia 2 is now officially in the Philippines. And the long-awaited entry-level smartphone has hit the market on February 9, bringing the Nokia brand back in the limelight in the country's busiest and biggest smartphone segment.
The news comes just in time for Valentine's Day as well, meaning you can expect deals like getting two Nokia 2 devices for you and your significant other at discounted prices, or at 0% interest with financing option promos for 6 months from Home Credit. The device has a retail price of PHP 5,290, which puts it in the shark tank of competition from other manufacturers offering entry-level devices like Cherry Mobile, OPPO, Samsung, and Xiaomi.
The Nokia 2 has a 5-inch LTPS HD display protected by Gorilla Glass 3, something you don't see often or at all in this price segment. Nokia has always been known for their superb build quality, and keeping the phone's display safe is a big priority for today's smartphones, and it's great to see this happening at the entry-level as well. Inside is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 212 quad-core processor, which has enough power to get you through day-to-day tasks. The 1 GB RAM isn't much but pretty standard in this segment, along with 8 GB of internal storage. The phone also has an 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, and a 5-megapixel front camera for selfies. It has a 4,100 mAh battery, which should present some impressive longevity for this chipset, and it runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat, with an Android Oreo update promised around the corner.
On the other hand, the device still runs Micro-USB instead of USB Type-C, and it does not have a fingerprint scanner. Still, for the price and Nokia's sterling build quality, there's little to complain about. It comes in Copper Black, Pewter Black, and Pewter White, and is available in Nokia kiosks around the metro, along with Argomall online, and you can pre-order it as well.
