More than a month after it was first unveiled in China, HUAWEI's hotly-anticipated gaming-focused device, the Honor Play, will finally launch in the Philippines. And by the looks of it, we may be looking at a smartphone that will redefine how mobile gaming should be set in the mid-range segment. But did the Honor Play raise the bar so high? Let's find out.
The Honor Play comes pre-loaded with a feature called GPU Turbo. Honor claims that with this feature, the device delivers 60 percent more efficiency than the current trend in mobile gaming. The feature is also energy-saving as it only uses 30 percent less power, all thanks to the proprietary HiSilicon Kirin 970 chipset. The device's SoC is also equipped with the AI NPU (neuron process unit) which should allow users to experience gaming at a professional level.
Meanwhile, the Honor Play also supports a 4D "smart shock" haptic feature which provides realistic vibrations on games that come with a firing mode, very much akin to navigating a gaming console. But with the constant vibrating, will the Honor Play last, you ask? Yes, of course. The handset is juiced by a 3,750mAh battery that supports 1.5-day heavy usage.
The Honor Play also boasts of 3D gaming sound effect which brings about an impressive 3D sound experience. So if you're especially particular with the sound your gaming iteration provides, this device won't disappoint you in that area.
All these gaming features are encased in a splendid 6.3-inch Honor FullView Display with a staggering 89 percent screen-to-body ratio which should both fit the average hand of its gamers and impress upon a dazzling viewing experience all at the same time.
Down the line, the Honor Play comes with more-than-decent offerings. In the photography department, a dual 16MP + 2MP rear-camera setup is included along with a 16MP selfie sensor; both of which are AI-assisted. Other inclusions are the face unlock technology and a rear-mounted fingerprint reader.
Considering all these features, there is no doubt that the Honor Play has certainly raised the bar in mobile gaming in the mid-range segment. And with a price tag so attractive, we're definitely looking at a winner here.
The Honor Play carries a price tag of PHP 15,990 and will go on sale on August 13. The device will be up for an exclusive pre-order via the "Game with the Brave" event, to be held at SM City Fairview on the 11th of this month. A free JBL Clip 2 Speaker awaits those who will be pre-ordering.
