iPhone 8 Dethroned Samsung Galaxy S9+ in the Best-selling Smartphone List in May 2018
Samsung Galaxy S9+ is no longer the best-selling device, according to Counterpoint Research's list for the month of May 2018. The most-coveted spot was secured by Apple's iPhone 8, thanks to the company's successful marketing campaigns in Europe.
Last April, the Samsung Galaxy S9+ was crowned as the best-selling smartphone, beating its rival Apple's iPhone 8 and iPhone X. However, the reign of the Galaxy S9+ proved to be a short-lived one, because the iPhone 8 managed to win back the title last May, according to the latest report outed by Counterpoint Research. The Samsung Galaxy S9+ slipped down to the second spot, having a global market share of 2.4 percent. For starters, the iPhone 8 placed fifth in April before it moved up the ladder a month after. The sudden increase in sales is said to be due to the Cupertino tech company's successful marketing campaigns in Europe including the "How to shoot on iPhone" promotion, which helped build hype around the current iPhones. In addition, there's a strong demand for the iPhone 8 in the US market.
Securing the third slot is another Apple device, the iPhone X. The notch-bearing handset has been in the same position over a course of a few months, having a market share of 2.3 percent. The larger iPhone 8 Plus settled for the fifth spot with a 2.1 percent market share. Ranking sixth, the smaller Samsung Galaxy S9 has also the same share of the pie as the iPhone 8 Plus. Also, it has been noticed that products from Chinese phone makers have been gaining momentum in the past few months. As a matter of fact, the Xiaomi Redmi 5A ranked fourth in the list having a market share of 2.2 percent. All thanks to its loyal supporters, Xiaomi became the best-selling brand in India lately. It also strengthened its popularity in its home country as well as its global presence. Meanwhile, the seventh, eighth, ninth, and tenth places are secured by the HUAWEI P20 Lite (nova 3e), the Vivo X21, the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus / Redmi Note 5, and the OPPO A83 respectively.
We will be watching how the rankings will change in the next month and how long the iPhone 8 can hold fast to its crown. We'll be glad to inform you once new information reaches us.
